Our first task in the third section of this semester was to research a topic in our groups of 5. Our topic was "Utopia".
Utopia - "An imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect."
-Oxford
After we presented these, we were told to, individually, think of an idea for a political party, and a single issue for us to focus on. We were told it could be anything we wanted, as long as we were passionate about it. I decided to focus on free speech, and how it is being fought against by protesters in Britain, America, and most dangerously in Canada.
After more thought, we each created a manifesto, putting our party's policies into writing. It took a couple iterations to get the wording write, getting criticism from other people in the class, before I was happy with the result.
1 - No speech should be prohibited unless it is a call to physical violence.
2 - No person should have the right to censor on the grounds of another person's speech.
I also decided to name my party The Open Party, based around the 'openness' that the party is striving for in speech, and also because the acronym allowed for the slogan "Rise to the TOP for free speech".
